no internal fuses or jumpers on the mainboard, reseated the ram countless times...

Usually if there is RAM issues, it does 2 short and 1 long beep 3 times in a row.  graphics is continuous beep beep, but dead cpu does nothing...

checked ram, graphics and psu's in an old athlon-based system with no problems...  this one just locked up mid-video and then when rebooted won't even post at all...

Why would I want to pay an extortionate amount of money for what is basically a £600 PC  ;D  and then waist the 24" monitor by hooking it up to my tv :D

yeah done the whole elimination process of starting with a plain mobo with nothing, and adding components in to test.  also did the battery and still nothing :(

Silly question, have you reset the bios by shorting the jumper.?

stupid thing has no jumper to reset the bios, hence removing the battery itself...

lol, after 5 years, even the best PC has a limited life line i'm afraid lol.

I would never buy a MAC I'm afraid, not just the overly high cost.., ya can't upgrade the darn things lol and i like fiddling too much, would deprive me of a major joy in life lol. Get bored.., add another bit lol or a new and better component :P

If only it were so easy to upgrade men he he (without losing the best bits of the original)

:P :P

/me now goes and hides

Intel P4s are generally bomb proof.  More likely mobo, esp as most from P4 era will be lead free.

I must admit, having extensively used an imac (why the break cant you connect the mouse to the USB ports on the keyboard without tripping the poly fuse!), iPhone and various other MAC products, they are a bit niche. They are excellent for some apps but, not ideal for a general purpose home machine from a support, serviceability and price perspective.

My home machine (touch wood) is now 4 years old and has never missed a beat, so it does show that good hardware which is well setup can be very stable even on windoze...
