I get what you are saying, TB, and I do look carefully at what is being offered. Although his email address includes "uk", as you point out, the posting made it clear that the item was of Hong Kong origin - and the replacement works well!

Ron.
A lot do claim to be item in UK, and the first you know its a Hong Kong seller is when the Paypal email comes through with a Chinese name.  At this point, you know its cheap tat, and has a high probability that it won't work.

And then, you find that their ability to converse in English mysteriously stops, and they expect postage back to HK. Which requires customs forms, queuing at PO, being out of pocket, and generally a load of hassle.

I must be very lucky as I have bought over 1100 items on ebay in the last few years with only 1 problem so far including a lot of large stuff from America (which can be expensive due to import duty).

There is a big seller on the bay...called Babz,my advice is to steer clear of them, most of the stuff they sell 'looks OK' but it's absolute crap, and DO NOT! accept replacement items as they are crap also. They tried every thing to get me not to give them negative feedback, but they got it anyway.I'm now taking my own advice and dealing with reputable UK companies only...spend a bit more on the items and then in general you only need to buy once.I'm fed up with having to decipher badly written instructions for a poorly made and a lot of times a dodgy/dangerous copy of the genuine item. >:(

My experience of ebay generally very good. Any problems have been sorted. One issue which caused a load of grief in waiting in for the item to be delivered which then arrived damaged the day after it should have arrived and then more grief to get it picked up. Not the seller's fault apart from it was his choice of carrier but he finally told courier company to forget it as collection seemed to present them with so many problems, gave me the item for free (wooden toy box circa £120) which I managed to fix. I will NEVER buy a large item off ebay again.
