As from April next year..unless you buy an electric car which are more than likely tax free, all new cars are subject to new car tax rules..and when you google the price scale some are horrendous first year tax price then dropping to around £140 per year..However if you spend over £40,000 (very unlikely) the first years tax (£2000)can stay that price for the first 5 years..No wonder.Osbourne has done a runner... ;D

I ripped the final one off my car the morning it expired. They're ugly and unnecessary. I've several years worth of club membership stickers I won't add to.

And as for an expiry reminder, we all use computers: add an alarm to your calendar for the VFD, MOT and insurance for each car you're responsible for.

I put a friend's car in for an MOT earlier this week because it had already expired, and used a label printer for a sticker in the doorshut with the new expiry date.

Many older people still don't.

Also, it is far more convenient to simply glance at a small circular disc at the bottom of the screen rather than use a computer (provided the site isn't down)

Tax avoidance is also far easier and greater now there is no visible disc.

We are all reading this forum on some sort of computer. Old people can sort themselves out.

You still have to look at the disc. There are lots of drivers who pay no attention to the car, which would be an improvement.

I suspect that due to the large number of ANPR cameras, and easy access to the DVLA data base, deliberate long term VED avoidance is much harder than it used to be.
