old golf
« on: 09 September 2016, 17:33:31 »

my daughter-in-law has just purchased an old T reg Volkswagen golf which appears to run ok. on idle the revs are rising & falling from 1150- 1200. when I put it in gear they seemed to be steady at just below 1000. the car has a mot whilst april but she,s only bought it for a run around for two mths at the most. if its an easy inexpensive fix then it will get sorted. but I am relying on advice if anybody can suggest why the revs are fluctuating so.   :y :y

The Mk4 Golf (from 1998 to 2004) were in my opinion the best Golfs. We had several 1.8 GTi turbos, and they were superb cars, and bullet proof (if serviced properly, as with any car).
I would clean the throttle body for starters, making sure all hose clips on the air intake side are tight.

If she's only keeping it for a couple of months, and unless you want to risk buggering things up, I'd leave it be personally.
