I want to live in a country where 'the norm' simply isnt to 'rent' everything you own; abuse and mistreat until the 6-month, or 2/3-year lease period is over, hand back the scratched/knackered 'old' one, and receive a brand new, shiny thing. It has bread a culture of abuse and total lack of respect for property, because guess what? Some people still save up to own, and care for their things, not just see a scratch, shrug, bin it and just 'get' a new one.

 . . . . . also, I've stopped bothering about pristine shiny perfect cars, and the expense that goes with them. Park in a supermarket car park a few times and any car won't be pristine for long. I recently got an '06 Volvo. From a distance I watched an opening van door put a small dent in it. I was cross, but not like REALLY REALLY cross, however if it had been a £40k Merc, I would have been

I park mine at the far end of the car park but I still get paranoid, and you still get some idiot parking next to you even when there`s about 60 spaces all around

Last time I needed to park the car near an airport I got that bloke who lived not near Reading to park it... Mind you, it was a long trip

I wonder if the bloke from Readingham still offers that service

Only time I've used airport parking was back in 2009 at East Midlands airport.Parked where I was told and handed keys over,when we returned the car had been moved to a different spot but not far enough to even register as extra mileage and car was in same condition as when I'd left it.

I have heard a few horror stories about so-called valet parking companies. There are also some intricacies around insurance. There was a chap in Essex who had a 911 that he left with a Valet parking company at Stansted. The driver wrote it off and the valet company only had 3rd party insurance. The owner couldn't claim on his own insurance as he wasn't driving at the time so he was initially left out of pocket. I don't know whether he went after the parking company as a civil matter.

Personally, I don't let anyone use my car, even on the times when I have used dealers to service it. If you expressly say you don't want you car road-tested and the garage subsequently do road-test it, the mechanic can be prosecuted for taking without consent I believe.

Fully agree. Saves hanging around waiting for bus or driver to turn up, and you know nobody has used your car.

Less so now, as we all have to drive to get in, but a few years ago workmates were always borrowing mine at lunchtime to nip out to get something. But only because I trusted them.
