Some people have all the luck - Windows Phone.
« on: 15 September 2016, 20:12:50 »

One of my Sons has decided he now want to try a WinPhone, having had Andrioid and iPhone etc, dont ask, I dont know. Anyway hes put around hes interest and low and behold, someone at work has said 'I ve got one, never used it, you can have it for Beer, doesn't work though, Sim Tray is jammed'

So, days later I get handed a Lumia 925 to potential fix, looks brand new, box, charger etc, but has spent most of its life in a cupboard. And sure enough the Sim Tray is jammed tight, first thoughts where to say to Son, just use as a Wifi Tablet, but the returned look I got back was. you haven't even looked at it yet.  ::)

Today I decided to investigate, watched a YouTube on how to take one apart, and within mins I had the back off and was soon pulling bits apart, and sure enough I could see the jammed Sim in there, having kind of worked out how it should slide out, with the help od some tooth picks, tweezers, thin cardboard. paper etc, I managed to get the Tray out and what looked at first like the wrong Sim size in there.

Having got the Sim out, turned out it wasn't a Sim at all, but a 128gb SanDisk Extreme micro SD Card.  :D

Put the Phone back to together, thinking probably wouldn't work again, phone works fine, Networked unlocked, good for 4G, and the SD Card was a worker as well.  :y ;D

I have to tolerate a Windows phone for work.  Besides the stuck tray, there might be another reason why it was unused...   ...because they are truly awful things.

Must admit Ive got an old plastic cheapo Nokia 5X0 something which acquired a few years back to try, and yea it been in the draw ever since.

I thought my luck was in with the SD Card as the 925 doesn't have a Card slot, but alias the Son seems to have other plans for that, probably end up having to buy off him via eBay if I want to see it again, knowing Him.  ::)

The Gooseberry had a place back in history, and worked reasonably well...  ...if you could afford to run the BES server it needed to shine.  Windows Mobile also has a place in history as being the initial catalyst to make smartphones viable.  Both RIM and MS managed to cock it all up though.

I gave the Blackberry back to my boss as I just couldn`t get on with it and got a Windows phone for work use which TBH works well for what I use it for, Sync`d with the laptop, has office and sync`s well with OWA and also sync`s photo`s seamlessly with the laptop.
I do prefer Android but I find the Windows phone good for work.

The modern Winphone (7 upwards) was designed from the ground up to be a corporate device.  Hence, its fully integrated with MS Server technologies, and things like DA.  As a consumer device, it lacks the ease of use, and has failed. Hence Winphone has now been abandoned by MS.

Android was always a consumer orientated system (in fact, the whole model wouldn't fit in to most corporate requirements).

gayPhone started out as consumer, but crApple were smart enough to realise even before the launch of the iPhone 4 that they could get into the corporate space, and made a lot of effort to make it manageable and have the connectivity for corporates. Its ironic that IOS3 had better Exchange connectivity than the Windows devices at the time (Windows Mobile 6.5). But the iPhone lacks the ability to do DA, which means access corporate data is not seemless.

If you're a Microsoft company, Windows Mobile makes sense, as its integration with corporate directories and integrated DA allow access to everything from anywhere, as if you we on the corporate network.
