Afternoon Chaps, I hope someone can advise me on this. Just drive my 2.6 for about 8 miles with no problems. Pulled up at shopping complex and went in for about half hour on returning the car fired up, juddered and stopped. I did it again and it did exactly the same, over and over again.

I can't hear the fuel pump kicking in when I put the key in so I checked all the fuses under the dash but can't see any problem with them. Fuel gauge is saying 1/4 tank which should be right from when I filled up.

Has anyone got any ideas what could be causing this, where is the fuse for the fuel pump and am I correct in saying it should make a noise when the ignition is turned on?

It'll still turn over. but if it was the immobilser the eml would flash constantly

The EML is not flashing. I've flattened the battery now trying different things so waiting for the car in front to move so we can tow it.

I'm still thinking fuel pump though as I can't hear it make a noise when the ignition is turned on

The V6 does not prime/pressurise the fuel pump at point of "live" ignition. Pump relay only activates pump when cranking engine, providing the ECU is getting the pulses from the crank sensor

Didn't hunk the crank sensor would allow the car to start and then shudder to a stop though, thought that was instant stop and EML on??

When breakdown people turn up, first and foremost, ensure that the car is level. This is vital... Jack a corner if required, then try to start it.

If this fails, re try starting, but give the bottom of the tank a fair slap as the car is cranked.

If this works, fuel pump is getting weak.

If it doesn't, the might be crank sensor, but bear in mind, this doesn't normally show a code

Ok, I walked and fetched a gallon of petrol, put it in and sat and waited for my recovery. The battery was completely flat by this stage, when it arrived we put the jump leads on let it put some charge in the battery and hey presto she started straight up. Fuel gauge has gone up so I don't know if the fuel gauge has gone faulty and it was short of fuel or if it's the crank sensor as suggested but we are home and I'm starting to defrost with a drop or two of JD.

Estates do not like starting when the fuel level is very low, even though they will do several miles past the displayed range.
