Anybody having issues getting insured for a reasonable price with LPG fitted??
Mine is £440 a year for a 2.2 CD + LPG and i'm nearly 45 yrs old with 4 yrs no claims

Jue's insurance on moneysupermarket.com (directchoice) was £400 ish.., but as he hadn't owned a car for a while, it was with no no claims bonus.  Made us laugh, it was nearly £300 below the next nearest quote. Obviously that was with the LPG stated on the policy.  Someone with 4 years no claims bonus should be able to get it a lot cheaper I would have thought.

Always use some kind of price comparison site for anything we want to buy.  Amazing what savings u can make online on exactly the same product (bought an LG 32 inch TV - i.e. reasonable brand for £360.., half price plus an extra 10% off with a voucher code).

generally insurers will add 1 group to the car for an LPG conversion - provided it has been fitted by a qualified mechanic/engineer

so lets say your 2.2 CD is Group 13, they would charge as if it was group 14 - often making little difference to the premium (depending on how far through your term you are)

this just just reflects the increased cost in replacing your car with LPG if its a total loss

i have done 2 DIY fits on omega V6's now and neither of them had a policy increase....

The reason they need to know is that in theory the car is now modified, most insurers don't bat an eyelid about it at all, they see it as a non performance upgrade and so it has zero effect on the premium

i would be looking to change insurers if they were going to charge me that much, i pay about £300 for a 51 plate 2.6 CDX, thats fully comp, protected NDB and one SP30, oh and the sister in law is on the policy as well and she has had two total loss write offs

My non LPG MV6 was £330 with the AA. 5 point speeding fine, no accidents and 4 (maybe 5) yrs no claims and I am 46. Either you do 35,00 miles a year


or you live on the GLC in Farnborough...

I agree, should make no difference.......change insurance comps if it does.....or threaten to......might make em come down one the price........dont like to tell what i pay......ok you've twisted my arm......£1000 last year

Sorry £440 for a 2.2 is a bit of a rip off. My insurance for a 3.0 V6 elite is only £213 fully comp and i'm 31 but as of yet not asked about when i put LPG on it but i cant see it going up that much.

You've definitely been ripped off I pay £430 fully comp and I have 2.0 litre 16v LPG - 26 years old, 2 years no claims and 6 points on my license so something wrong there.  Most of the insurance companies I've dealt with have not been at all concerned with the car being LPG and haven't asked for a certificate either (although I do have one).

Made no difference ot my Elephant policy. They said they'd write and ask for "evidence to prove it had been converted" then just wrote to me and said that the modification is noted and I'm covered. :-/

Will get it certified just in case i think but I'd get back to your insurers and tell them how many companies are accepting it with no extra premium.

My Rangie was insured with the cheapest insurer for a standard car and there was no premium loading for the LPG!!! As a bonus, they also offset my CO2 emissions for the year for free
