Lack of power and fuel consumption
« on: 11 December 2016, 20:08:48 »

I have an Omega 2.2 Auto 2003. It seems to be lacking power in the first 3 gears. The Revs are there but I just does not seem to pull hard unless you really put your foot down hard. I havnt had it long and it's my first auto. My instinct tells me something is not right. Maybe it needs tuning as the fuel consumption is terrible.  A 60 litre tank and Im lucky to get 300 miles out of it.

Can anyone enlighten me on if this is normal? And if not what I can so to sort it?

Cheers

Driven gently, any Omega should see 360 miles from a tank. That said, an automatic 2.2 has two Achillies heels... first the engine, whilst a decent lump, only gives 140 bhp, so needs to be worked to get the best from it... especially as even a 2.2 Omega weighs in at 1,700kgs. It revs eagerly enough though. The second issue is the gearbox, it's only a four speed, so even a modest motorway cruise will see nearly 3000 rpm.

Try changing gear manually and see if that helps matters any, and use cruise control, if fitted, on longer journeys.

Car may also improve with a service and breather clean... don't forget the cambelt and waterpump if due, as even being only a tooth out when fitting can make the world of difference.

Welcome to Omega ownership  :y
