Buy a bad one & you will regret it especially an S class , this one certainly sounds suspect.
Nothing suspect about it... Px clearance with an MoT measured in hours and no history... ::) that said, MoT history looks pretty tidy, with absolutely no mention of chassis corrosion. Can they go from fine to rotten in a year and 7k miles?

He has reduced it by a quarter... and seems to specialise in ten year old hatchbacks, so clearly has no interest in older luxury barges.

Good to see you're not just well adept at pissing people right off online; your skills also translate well to telecommunications  :D ;)
Er, thanks. I think... :D

His parting words were, "It's clearly not for you.". He clearly doesn't appreciate my approach to car ownership... ;D

Bodywork wise yes. In fact that seems to be the modus operandi. Like a pear. Rock hard one day... mush the next  ::)

Either he knows it will fail, or he simply can't be arsed... but for the sake of £50, not putting it through an MoT makes no sense to me :-\ especially when a friendly garage will do the test first, then do the computer bit if it passes... ::)

When I asked if he had had it up in the air, his reply was, "not for £750..."

As Stemo said could turn into a money pit , short MOT & not bothering to put it through another  best avoided, in my opinion. As for corrosion underneath I looked at several Mercs &checked the MOT history no mention of chassis problems but most had brake pipe advisories.

Nothing... over the years, some tyre issues, couple of ball joints, headlamp aim and that's it. Last failure was 2014 and for a number plate bulb...

Cos he's a dealer... why would he mess about failing an MOT when he's given £300 for it, he's going to sell it for £750 to someone.. 450 for doing sod all is better than any amount of money for doing something.

I'm inclined to agree in this case... for £750 you either want it or you don't. Beggars can't be choosers and all that. They're only going to go up in value if kept running from now on.  Decent ones are 3-4k and still suffer all the usual suspects.

I suspect that the dealer gave peanuts for it and is trying to make a few quid on it and the not testing it means that he can more legitimately hide behind the 'Sold as seen' bs rather than actually being deceptive :-\

Needs seeing/driving really, but was trying to decide whether the 80 mile round trip was worth it or not... hence ringing first, but his attitude on the phone makes me want to not bother, but the car could potentially be alright :-\ Fuel economy and insurance cost are broadly similar to the 525i... be more comfortable too ;)

Of course. Besides why would he take it in PX knowing it was fnarked?

Where is it?

Would holes underneath be relatively obvious on these?

By that I mean daylight from one rear arch to the other like a rotten W116... Would jacking it up at each jacking point and having a poke around suffice?

Exhaust, tyres and lights are all pretty obvious, either acceptable or not, similarly gadgets either work or don't...
