This is a £750 car, right? FFS, Al....get it bought or forget about it. Personally, I wouldn't buy any car for £750, let alone a complicated beast like this.
I might as well just say it......for £750 it will be a heap of shite trouble.

Exactly, like any sub £1k S-class/7-series/A8/Jaguar XJ/ Range Rover/Shogun/etc it's the sort of thing you buy on a whim as a toy. When it breaks, which it will because stuff like that need owners with healthy wallets to keep them reliable, throw it away. Cars like that are not the sort of thing to buy for a car you need to depend upon.

When I was a boy it was said that Mercedes cars were hewn from granite.

When you were a boy - they were. That went tits up in the late 90,s.

If I were you I would go and view it and test drive it. If it seems good mechanically and electrically, buy it, get it home, then examine it closely for serious rust. If it has any, buy a mig welder, practice a little, then cut out the rust and weld new metal in.
You then have a good solid car for little money.  :y

That was only ever true when they were treated to open wallet maintenance. As soon as that stopped(third/fourth owner onwards?), so did the dependability. And Mercs/BMWs/Porsches/etc always rusted, they just took a little longer for it to show.

What would it be worth in bits?

Not a lot. Plenty of them beyond eco repair should mean no shortage of bits avail. Plus most of the bits are badly engineered and thus no use secondhand  :)

AMG alloys? HIDs?
No, standard 7 spoke 16"s. Possibly Hids, has headlight washers :-\ Does have heated/vented/electric seats all round along with electric column. Base radio judging by the presence of a cover panel. No sunroof as near as I can tell.

Silver I presume?
Yeah, Z157 ;D... not...

Bordeaux Red or Almadine at a guess with Java? Interior, creamy biscuit colour interior.

Jesus christ man, the private plate is worth that much!  :o

You best had. Looking around at prices... the post 2004 cars are not falling at all.  In a few years time it's going to be difficult to buy anything for less than £5k I think :(

Someone has apparently put a deposit down... Fortunately I checked before I left the house ::)

Would have proposed a straight swap for the 5 Series. Sod paying actual cash for it ;D

Had a  set of wheels with legal tyres lined up just in case and a replacement rear bumper in the correct colour and all for less than £150...

Parts seem to be a third cheaper than the W140 :-\

That's a pity I was looking forward to see how you got on with the Mercedes, plenty of others around though.😉
