But if a strange one this...

Oil fired boiler in a bungalow (all pipes run up through loft space and drop down to rads).

Boiler fires and runs. Pump seems to run and get hot water to all the rads but it doesn't flow through and return. This has all happened at the same time. No evidence of air in the rads and with bleed screw open there is water flowing.

To top it all off... Pump and 3 way valve relatively new and this all happened suddenly.

Any ideas?

My mums bungalow is similar set up except gas boiler and does the same thing since its been fixed. The returns on the rads take absolutely ages to get warm but the rads are hot.
Ive put it down the 'intelligent' pump the plumber fitted Apart from its suppose detect air in it and will keep reversing the flow for 10 mins to try to shift the air up the expansion pipe, its also reduces the flow speed to what it thinks is needed. Some careful balancing of the system was needed to get all the rads hot.

No such cleverness here I'm afraid...

Ok, but are the rads balanced? if not more water will flow through the ones nearest the pump....

It was all fine and just stopped flowing (well, as fine as it gets with one rad that is a known sludgy mess and getting replaced this year). They need a bit of tweaking again now as I've been messing about trying to get it working.

As I said, I seem to have temporarily cured it so hopefully that's that sorted until the summer!

ok, good  :y

Be worth considering fitting a magnaclean when you do the rad work.....further sludge will collect in that instead  :)

Plumber fitted one on mums system after he had power flushed it  :y
