First Jag service....may interest TB.
« on: 29 April 2017, 13:05:05 »

So I contact Jaguar and ask them the price of a 48000/3 year service. You might imagine that all the dealers charge the same. They don't.

Prices range from about £380-£500. The service essentially consists of an oil and filter change and a 'so called' visual inspection. Expensive main dealer rip-off. :(

However, Jaguar have what they call the 3+ service plan which costs £199 for the same. I imagine this has been put in place to stop owners of Jaguars 3 years and over defecting to 'independents'

So what did I get?

7.25 litres of Castrol 0W/20 edge.....plus new filter.

A pointless ninety second video much like STMO had with his Astra.

They apparently checked although I have no evidence.......front pads 20% worn.....rear pads 60%worn, discs lipped.

Air Con 5.8c

Battery 12.76V

Cooling -37C

Coffee was good. Receptionist pretty. :y

Not too bad for a fast cat  :y

FatherT had his serviced recently, had a rather nice XE loan car for the day.  :)

Yes, I thought £199 reasonable.

No stamp in the service book for my car. Jaguar in common with others are using OSH. Still, hopefuly no more dealer contact for another year or 16000 miles.

Rear tyres look pretty well shagged after less than 5000 miles. :-\

Sounds about right and also tallies with 60% wear on the rear pads.

I would advise you to drive everywhere with the traction control off. Tyres are clearly a lost cause, but at least you'll save the pass  ;D

That does sound expensive Opti.  But is that classed as a "major" servive?

I know mine is a 3.2 Vx, not a Jaguar, but my last Vx main dealer interim service was £86.12 (with TC) and my last major service was £380 with everything, plugs, all filters, oil, battery check, etc., etc, done. ;)

Even the 'major' service is pretty minor. Usually the addition of fuel filter and air filters (2). Camchain, so no belt to change.

Apparently coolant and auto gearbox oil should last the life of the car. Brake fluid change every 2 years £55.

Rear discs, pads, and sensors £325 using 3+ servicing with genuine Jaguar parts. Could be worse.

Transit custom discs and pads all round at ford was around £500 + VAT and they already had it in for a major service :o

But work wanted the stamp as it was under 2 years old at the time!

The parts including oil are less then £80 and whole lot can be done in the time it takes the oil to drain. Even on the V6 :-X

On the Desmond, you can probably Valet the car and have a cuppa as well before the oil stops dripping ::)

I am quite prepared to pay it as it is my choice.  I could do it, but it is all too easy to let Vx technicians go ahead and give the car a thorough service, good inspection, and diagnostic checks, in a nice fully equipped garage, and then drive away knowing it is all fully guaranteed and done at trade prices :y

Not all Jaguar dealers offer 3+ servicing. A small number in the affluent south don't take part assuming if you like in Poshland and own a Jaguar you are dripping with cash.
