Right then boyos. My mum has a Ford Fusion (2006, 1.6l auto). It's a really nice little motor but having been in it and driven it myself the ride is ALMOST unacceptable. When it goes over pot holes it feels like the car is going to break in two 

Anyway i know there is nothing wrong with the suspension as I've checked it over, replaced some parts for MOTs etc.

Anyways I always suspected the tyres. She had 1 "road king" or summat like that and 3 (and I shit you not) "Road Stones". Perfectly named in my opinion 

So I fitted a set of jinyu tyres. They're really affordable and we fit a lot of them as a top end budget / lower midrange tyre and we've had some really good feedback from customers on them. These tyres have totally transformed the ride on me mums motor. They're very pleased with it.

I just wondered if there were any oofers that had fitted them and if so what were your impressions of them. I can already hear TB compiling reasons why they wouldn't suit the omega but would be good to know from oofers who drive "normally"

I run chinese Kumho tyres on my 2.2 they`re cheap, quiet & grippy in the wet.

Yup, kuhmo (sp?) have served me well, as have Uniroyal Rainsport 3s.

I have found runway tyres to be total dog eggs however. Bloody lethal.

I run chinese Kumho tyres on my 2.2 they`re cheap, quiet & grippy in the wet. 

Kumho is South Korean.....which is effectively a subsidiary of the US!

Interestingly they have a research centre in the UK.....

Hence there pretty reasonable tyres

I would have bought them for the VW, but they were same price as Dunlop - Sport Maxx RT2's. 

So went for them instead.

There is a fitting place by us that does tyres from General Tires, obviously American. I find them to be perfectly good on my astra but, then again, they don't get much of a hard time. Got 24,000 miles out of the last set...on the front (driving wheels).

General Tires is owned by Continental, and they're pretty much more price oriented versions of Conti tyres.

Funnily enough, I had a pair of Generals last time on the Omega (rears) on the recommendation of our local (independent) tyre fitters. No complaints so far, 10k miles in and loads of tread still to be had.

I had a set of Jinyu,s on my last Omega. Mileage was pretty good, dry weather grip reasonable. Wet weather grip, fackin terrifying.

I think everyone agrees that all budget tyres are poor in the wet.  Any tyre that cannot manage a A rated wet performance on the pointless EU tyre markings is in the realm of "utter shite".

Mid range is where the things get interesting, as the gap between wet and dry performance reduces.

Premiums are where the tyre offering good all round warm weather grip should lie.


Gripwise, there are good mid-range, such as the Kuhmos, and piss poor premium, such as GY F1 Assym2, so price cannot be used. I've not yet come across a good budget tyre, despite having driven many, many OOFers cars running "fantastic" budget tyres.

But we all want different things.  I want grip as priority.  Webby's mum wants a supple ride (Nexen N6000 also good for this, though piss poor grip). Some just want something that will get through an MOT.

That's the nail on the head. I don't drive fast round corners therefore have never had issue with grip on my lowly BCTs.

For me when I next need tyres I'll try these as my bcts are noisy. Would like it to be more comfy. But budget didn't permit at the time hence I put on ditch finders
