Hello,
My AR35 has to be topped up once a month, yet i cant see any signs of leaks.
It slips sometimes when driving, though its rare..
A low whine has developed at anything over 50 mph,
Would it pay me to replace the box or have it repaired?
Am very concerned with the potential cost...

Should be able to pick up a replacement box for around the £100 mark. Worth trying to get one from a known good car / seller as you could be buying someone elses trouble. Its the same for any used part, but its quite a faff pulling boxing in and out, so best to try and just do it the once.

I would think that replacing the gearbox would be a cheaper option than having one repaired.Could all depend on how much repair it needs of course,but you'd not find that out until someone checked it over.

That happened to my 2.6 with an AR25 gearbox some time ago; it was leaking by a similar amount and I made my local garage rich with monthly top-ups!
It was leaking from the "indentation" on the offside of the box, looks like a core plug, for want of a better description. I definitely did leave evidence on the road, especially on a wet day.
I replaced it with an AR35 sourced from here, fitted expertly by Serek, and all is well now.

If you have a garage and stands, a box change is feasible. James V6CDX did one for me two years ago and made it look easy. When I did it again last year, I found it challenging but doable. (I am 80, so  was somewhat inhibited )
If you still do jobs under the car, this is certainly a goer.

Mine too. I last did the job about 5 years ago, at the age of 52, and decided I was too old for it and would never do it again.

I've an AR25 which would fit but it's not as strong as your current box I believe

If you draft up a short wanted request for an AR35  & post it in "Test" section , a nice Admin fellow will probably move it to the wanted section for you

Yep, that's your best bet. If he has one, he will fit it in a trice (well, maybe two trices) and it will be well worth your journey to Huntingdon for a job perfectly done.
