had some mayo in the filler for a couple of months now, and the MOT garage said she is leaking oil, did not say where from...... will this be the cylinder head gasket? Any ideas. As do not want the headache of getting someone to fix it, head skimmed, would rather just  scrap the car, if so..... sadly

A little bit of Mayo on the filler cap is normal, unless theres tons of it floating around.

Any oil (Brown grunge) in the Coolant Tank.

I would wager that you only do very short journeys...

Get the garage to check the breathers and clean if necessary

How much oil are you using? Mayo is normally due to short runs or poor quality oil .Which oil are you using.

Oil using an oil that absorbs moisture far to much. Like Castrol shite.

I just travel 5 miles and back to work, with the odd longer journey. I just use  a halfords oil for the car, or have been this past few months, and top it up when told to by the display.  will get it checked asap, as on holiday next week, so will have the time

Drive twenty miles each way... The car will appreciate it and your mpg will improve

hi .yes journeys so short will be the reason.providing none on dipstick or in water tank all should be well. the engine will be causing condensation as it warms up which then rises to top of engine and never gets chance to evaporate.this is why its bad when people run laid up cars for a few minites every now and again.some do it every day!my neighbour used to !. best to run them every 3 months or so and let them get fully up to temp throughout for a good hour.

Isn't Halfrods oil Castrol? That would also make it worse.

By the sounds of it OP still has the filler "neck". In which case get rid and put cap direct on cam cover. Problem solved.

Doesn't solve the problem, simply moves it to the breathers...

The filler neck is dead space and gives the moisture laden vapour somewhere relatively safe to collect. Clean it out and drive the car further. It should then rarely return.

I leave my filler neck on for this very reason, its a safe place for the moisture to rise to, away from breathers or where real lubrication is needed.

Plus it makes it easier to fit a funnel, or in my case empty toilet roll cardboard's, and top up without the oil going all over the place.

Well I must be doing something wrong then, because I can never get the bloody stuff in without it going all over the place especially with a full new one.
