Sgt Pepper relaunched
« on: 26 May 2017, 19:25:38 »

On 1st June it will be 50 years since Sgt Pepper was released! So why on earth the "new" version would be released on the 27th May is beyond me - why not wait a few days & make it the full 59 years?

Anyway, it's a remix of the original tapes & done by Giles Martin - George's son. There was an excellent interview with him on Radio 6 a week or so back. The couple of tracks that I heard were excellent.

It seems that it's also included in Amazon music within the Prime subscription- so could cost you nothing to listen to.

So, enjoy  :y

I still cannot believe it was 50 years ago I, like all Beatles fans, got so excited about this fab new album by our heroes. The fanfare that went with it was something else, and it certainly did not disappoint when I spent my junior shop assistant money at WH Smith and emerged with my precious copy of the album with the best cover ever.

After that it never left my turn table for a good two weeks, playing it over and over again. Radio Caroline, in the pre Radio 1 days of 1967, also played it a lot and at school that is all we talked about, along with which Beatle we loved!! Oh great days.  8) 8)

No, it just can't be 50 years since........... :o :o :o

Don't rub it in!!  What makes it even worse is that I'm 64 in June!! ::) ::)

When I am sixty-four is just one of the great tracks on the album, but when I first heard it I never thought about the fact that when the album is 50 years old I would be 64!!! :o :o :o ;)

You get to sing the song all day only once in your life. You have some time to make up your own verses too!

It would appear that DG wasn't/isn't a Beatles fan, which in fairness I must confess I wasn't/aren't.But they went severely downhill when they got mixed up with that Krishna[or whatever it was]lark.

Stop it you  ;)
Not trying to be argumentative, it was a waste of vinyl fifty years ago too. Not a fan, as Baza so kindly put it, is somewhat of an understatement... I am pretty much allergic to the Beatles. So much so that the best thing that they did was split up, and the only positive thing any of them managed was Ringo narrating Thomas the Tank Engine, (which he did very well, fwiw) :-X

Yup. Beetles are a boat that left me firmly on the island. When all my mates "discovered it" in school in the late 90's/early 00's I was resoundingly mocked for being one of the few who couldn't see what all the fuss was about.

Blimey, that was late!! :o :o :o

Mind you as I repeatedly played Beatles tracks at home and in the car over the years, once my children were teenagers in the late 1980s they knew every word, so when the Beatles come to the fore yet again, as you say in the late nineties, it was not the same for them! ::) ::) ;D ;D ;)

You may not have enjoyed their music, but the amount of tax revenue they brought in to this country was immense. Pre-Beatles the Americans had the music scene sewn up, but with the Beatles the British music industry zoomed high and created massive tax revenue and great exports of everything connected with this group and all the others of the 1960s, like the Rolling Stones.  Nothing like it has been seen since those great days ;)

;D ;D ;D ;D  The thing is it is one of the Beatles songs I have found myself singing constantly over the years; that and Revolution and Yellow Submarine.  Mind you, Ticket to Ride, She's Leaving Home, Get Back, Help!...................etc, etc, etc, ALL go through my mind all so often..........and yes I always have a Beatles CD in the (now fully working) unit in the car! ::) ::) ::) ::) ::) ;D ;D ;D ;)
