.............and for my funeral I want I'll Be On My Way to be played :D :D ;)

For anyone who does not know this song, here are the Lyrics:

Lyrics
The sun is fading away
That's the end of the day
As the June light turns to moonlight
I'll be on my way

Just one kiss and I'll go
Don't hide the tears that don't show
As the June light turns to moonlight
I'll be on my way

To where the winds don't blow
And golden rivers flow
This way will I go

They were right, I was wrong
True love didn't last long
As the June light turns to moonlight
I'll be on my way, hey
To where the winds don't blow
And golden rivers flow
This way will I go

They were right, I was wrong
True love didn't last long
As the June light turns to moonlight
I'll be on my way, hey

I'll be on my way, oh, oh
I'll be on my way, oh, oh
I'll be on my way

and on Yoytube is this:

Since buying most of Mull, Macca has pretty much killed the crofting industry stone dead. Not exactly the philanthropist he might have you believe him to be :-X

Blimey, that was late!! :o :o :o

My generation had it backwards I think. We were early teens/late pre-teen during the rise of oasis and the inevitable comparisons with the Beatles that were flying around at the time.

That brought the Beatles music back into the foreground as far as we were concerned. To me at least, the comparison was a very valid one. I didn't care for either group :P

Its a cynical marketing exercise to relaunch the album 50 years later. It was of its time, it was hugely influential, like it or not - No Sgt Peppers, probably no Dark side of the moon, for example, and how can anyone (even his son), think they are going to improve on George Martins work.
I'm not the biggest fan of the Beatles, I would rarely sit and listen their albums, but they were hugely culturally and musically influential, and should always be recognised for that. In my opinion many of the changes which took place during the 60,scultural revolution, which the Beatles were at the forefront of, made the world a worse place than it was before. They threw the baby out with the bathwater and introduced a line of thinking which perpetuated the attitude that anything that has gone before is shite and must be eradicated, the young think they rule the world, older people are irrelevant and worthless, and everyone is entitled to everything because they want it.
The Beatles are something of an enigma to me, as I consider Lennon & McCartney as individuals, to be two of the biggest dickheads to ever become famous. However, together something made them very special indeed. Despite the fact that the biggest musical and songwriting talent in the band was George Harrison.
The one thing about the Beatles that I have always been hugely impressed by was the progress they made in less than a decade.
The progress from the early pop of She loves you, I wanna hold her hand etc. to the later songs such as A day in the life, Eleanor Rigby, and many others is absolutely staggering. No band before or since has done anything like it.
As for Oasis being compared to the Beatles - that is like comparing Liberace with Beethoven. ::)
I don't plan on having a funeral, but if I did I would want George Harrisons, All things must pass played at it.

Not a big fan of The Beatles, but there is no doubt that they transformed the music scene from 50's rock and rock to a distinctive 60's sound with much experimentation and progress at the forefront of a new musical era, which includes what is classed as the first global supergroup Cream and many other groups of the 60's / 70's like The Rolling Stones, Ten Years After, Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin and the first heavy metal group Black Sabbath to name but a few. :y :y :y

This led to the US / UK being the two global powerhouses when it comes to music, which they still are and it has also played a part, along with Hollywood, in English being the global language of common communication.

A bit of history for Lizzie: The transformation to a mainly modern guitar based sound owes much to the blues and the three kings, B. B. King, Albert King and Freddie King and groups consisting of a core of drums, keyboards, rhythm/bass guitars, lead guitar and vocals. There are other heavy influences including; jazz and country music.

The guitar is a surprisingly old instrument with the earliest record of a guitar style string instrument (tar is Arabic for a string) is in Egypt in 4000BC. Many countries have been involved in the progression of the design of the guitar including the UK instrument the Lute. The modern 6 string guitar evolved into its current form in the 18th century largely in Italy. The first electric guitar coils were demonstrated in 1929 with the first designs appearing in the early 1930's from Gibson, Fender and Bigsby.

Indeed Rod, and Eric Clapton (of the Yarbirds and Cream) certainly helped that stay on coarse, with him being undoubtedly the best Blues guitarist this side of the Atlantic :-* :-* :y

E.C. wouldn't want reminding of his days in the Yardbirds. He hated being in that band and didn't last very long there. He went on to John Mayalls bluesbreakers after that, played on the famous "Beano" album, and changed the sound and style of the guitar forever.
After that came Cream where he was unbelievably creative. Took the whole thing to completely new levels altogether - and then Hendrix arrived. In between all this, he played the lead guitar on the Beatles (George Harisson actually) song While my guitar gently weeps, which is one Beatles track Ive listened to hundreds of times.
To me he isn't the best blues player this side of the Atlantic. When he,s on form, he,s the best blues player on either side of the Atlantic.
Ive seen him on top form, when he played the blues as if his life depended on it, and it was a spiritual experience.
Ive also seen him when it seemed like another day at the office, and although still better than most other people, I was a little underwhelmed. Only to be expected I suppose in a career of over 50 years.

The only Sgt Pepper I've heard of was Angie Dickinson in Policewoman.  :-\  I'm not a fan of the Beatles either which would explain why I've never heard of it.  :-\
