I was an Airfix boy myself although I believe these kits were superior in fit and finish.

We’ve still got a Tamiya Midnight Pumpkin and a Clod Buster in the loft, both of which still work fine.
We bought one of them for my son’s 2nd birthday, but I had to play with it to amuse him as he was far too young and would damage it.   ::)  We bought the other one when he was about 5 years old. He’s 38 now and won’t give them to his own son, in case he mistreats them and damages them.   ::)   ;D
