I needed to google him because his name is not familiar to me, but as soon as I saw his face I recognised him.

Ronny may be referring to the Woodbine cigarette company. Of course, their popularity may have been before your time, what with you being so young.  :)  They were/are unfiltered tips so when you took a drag, you sucked flames through the tobacco.  ;D

My Granny used to send me to the corner shop to buy them for her when I was about 7 years old.  ;D
She smoked 80 of them a day.
It wasnt a big shock when she died of lung cancer at 68.

My Dad's choice of ciggy was Capstan Full Strength .... unbelievably, he's still here (though hasn't now smoked anything for some years)

and likewise, I used to go to the corner shop for them for him ....

It was great fun buying ciggies as a kid of 11 or 12.

Two or three of us would rock up in school uniform and the man would break open a packet of Players No6. He would then sell us one ciggy each. His profit must have been good because we ended up paying about 3 times the price. ;D

We could do with more customer service like that today.. ::) ::) ;)

Later on, when we could afford a full packet (  age about 15or 16) we would go for what we considered to be the 'most attractive'

I can remember buying a brand called Carlton which came in a fancy purple packet.

I was buying " singles" and a book of matches from age 13.
When I was able to buy packets of 10 or 20 I went for Embassy Regal.
Strong little buggers. Its was like smoking camel shit wrapped in old bus tickets.
