We haven't yet bought a second car so are soldiering on with our Suzuki 4 x4.

Due to unusually high temps we are already into heatwave (35C today) and with no air con it is a pain.

The air con used to work and work well but over successive years it isn;t holding the gas. Last year the recharge lasted two months, this year about 2 weeks. With the air con on you can barely notice the difference. The mechanic said " not worth repairing" . At the time I took that at face value but now think if it is going to cost £500 it would be worth it.

So how much do the team think it would cost to fix it? This is my guess:

New radiator (presumably ours has pin holes in it letting the gas out)
Regas
maybe some new piping or valves
Testing prior to repair
Labour

I am presuming the pump will be OK. car is 15 years old. It is a fairly simple system , no pollen filter for example. Am I missing anything?

Would start with a new condenser,  Omega ones are around £100, a mk6 fiesta is £50, vectra/saab £120, if that helps.

Crikey that holiday went nearly as quickly as ours did.

I'll go and see the garage and ask them for an estimate. Will have to have a hire car for a few days.
