aircon
« on: 09 June 2017, 12:33:51 »

Ok, 2.6 cdx. the aircon has stopped. My garage has called to say that the high pressure valve is knackered and it lives in this pipe and the whole pipe needs to be replaced. The pipe will be several hundred pounds plus the labour plus the regas, so this is not worth it. However is there any experts here who can advise me to complete this job a lot cheaper? could I get a second hand part and replace it myself then get the garage to regas? any suggestions out there? or just leave it. Many thanks, Leslie

Garage is talking rubbish, I'm sure valve itself can be replaced?

many thanks, its true the garage hasnt actually replaced these parts before but he clearly showed me the problem, that is the lower down pipe that has one of these things that lives within the pipe, it looks like it screws off but it doesnt, it is a fixed unit and apparently because of this that pipe section needs replacing, through vauxhall this pipe is obsolete and even if he could get the pipe it would cost a lot of money, so ive got the car back. Im thinking of getting a second hand pipe section, replace that bit and then take it back to regas. Does this sound ok? he has sucked out all the old gas and any moisture so its safe for me to work on it. If any of you good chaps live within a 100 miles or so of se london and feels good to fix it then im more than happy to drop a good sum. Many thanks. Les.

It definitely unscrews. If you can get the valve and the car down to Gatwick towards the end of next week I might be able to do it...

When I say might, I mean having the time, not the ability... have changed several  :y

Nick W is nearer if he has the time... his hours are a bit more 'normal' iirc ;)

arr brilliant sir, ok ive looked at the exact problem and i can see that it looks like the top bit does unscrew but ive tried and tried with everything in my arsenal and I cannot unscrew it at all. This is what my garage said, he said he cannot do it, hence to replace the pipe complete but I dont want to give up yet on this valve. Ive sprayed it with penetrate spray but i think that is just a token gesture. Im thinking of cutting across the top of it to create a slot for a wide screw driver. the 'flat sections' do not accept a spanner and is rounding off as im working on it so im giving up for now. I try again on sunday to get it off. If I just cant do it then if you dont mind id be happy to drive down to Gatwick, i can do that in an hour or less. My Omega is a very nice drive and clean and my garage says that so I want to keep it as long as possible. Many thanks. Leslie

Did mine last year, used a pair of mole grips on the valve as a regular spanner doesn't fit.

Part no. 13277003, obtained from dealer for £5.50.

It does ...... 15mm socket fits. It's  a snug fit, but does fit. 17mm IIRC to hold the block it screws into other wise it'll shear off the pipe (not that any of our admin have ever done that  ;))

:y Sure can be replaced.  Did my High Pressure valve a couple of years ago and also replaced valve core in the Low Pressure Value (standard Schrader core from memory)   :y

Garage did it when they did the A/C Refresh as needs doing of course when all depressurised and refrigerant all sucked out. so worth getting both done just to be sure.

This particular garage is not unique though when they suggest that the whole pipe needs replacing. I was told exactly the same thing by an air/con specialist & plenty of others here have been told the same thing.

This is the valve on its own
