Hi all,
I have recently aquired a 2002 2.2 Omega CDX. I have now put 1000 shakedown miles on it relatively trouble free and am about to embark on my first round of servicing etc.
However I have had an issue raise its head 5 times in those 1000 miles and would appreciate some insight from those more knowledgeable.
Occassionally (5 times so far), after stopping briefly and restarting the gearbox appears to go into a limp mode or select a higher gear. Basically lacks guts pulling away and feels like the parking brake is left on or its in top gear, once you build up speed its pretty normal but getting there is slow. A couple of restarts often rectify it, reverse gear seems unnaffected. No noises, light or anything untoward although I am yet to put it on the code reader to see if anything is showing.
Only other thing of note is that when this happens the idle revs seem to drop slightly sitting closer to 450 than a bit over 500 as they normally do, and possibly the teperature sensor is slightly higher (90+ a touch rather than 89/90), I only noticed the temperature today after a brief stop and restart at the petrol station, although the weather is hot and all returned to normal when driving so could have been heat soak or similar?
So my current thoughts are gearbox service, which I had planned anyway along with full engine and cambelt service, but there is a niggle in my mind saying cam shaft sensor. I have no idea why I am thinking that and can only assume its something i have read here then forgotten!
Any further thoughts on things to do or try? I'll do the codes tonight if I can find the code reader.
Now I think about it after seeing the temp guarge today I have rarely, if ever, heard a fan going after stopping the car which given some of my journeys seems a little odd. Should this happen, and if so in what circumstances and how best to test it? I think its possible that something may have been disturbed as it had a new rad the week I collected it due to a snapped hose mounting.
All thoughts and pointers appreciated.
While I have got you, where is the best place to purchase the service kit, cambelt etc.
Thanks
Joe
