2003 Corsa.....wipers not working.
« on: 18 July 2017, 11:48:47 »

The rear wiper is fine. :y

Front wipers don't work in any position other than the odd nervous twitch. A clicking noise can be heard from behind the dash.

Simple fix, I imagine. But what? :)

Slipped off the spindle thing? Worth popping wipers off and see if the motors turn when nothing on them?

But it is a Corsa remember, might as well throw it away. Rubbish things  ;D

The mech seizes up on these
Remove the motor from the mech and see if it works.
If it works, strip the mech and grease it up OR get one of a scrappy.

If it doesn't work, check fuses, relays, power at plug ect ........... :y

Have fun  :-*

Yes.... agreed......Corsa diesel is a load of crap and should be 'cubed at the first opportunity'.

Fortunately my Corsa runs on 'proper fuel' :P :P :P

Which fuse for wipers?

I doubt the fault  is with the motor. Fuse, relay, or solenoid is my guess.

A 14 year old corsa? Does your cleaning lady use this to go to the shop for detergent and the like?

Number 23 in the under bonnet fuse box (right side with a screw on cover), they used to be 20A but were uprated to 30A due to people trying to wipe the screen when the blades were frozen to the glass.

The mechanisms do seize if the rubbers are damaged, they can be stripped down, cleaned, greased and re-fitted, the rubber seals are the same as the small thin O rings used on the V6 plenums

The 1.3 cdti will eat a 1.2 petrol for breakfast and give the 1.4 a good run for its money  ;)
Shame it sounds like its going to rattle its tits off when cold but a dose now and again of 2 stroke in the diesel does make a difference   :y

Yup
My money is on a seized mech (which is a piece of piss to change)
Just remove the scuttle, not forgetting those friggin screws hidden at the base of the A pillar  :-X
Disconnect the motor and try the wipers  :y
If the mech IS seized, (as mark said) you can free them off if your gentle with a bit of heat from a heat gun or blow torch OR if your a rough t wat like me and snap the ficker  :-[   get one from a scrappy for about 15 quid delivered and grease it up before fitting  ;)

The car is rarely used and the wiper linkage looks quite 'crusty'.

It looks like 3 torx  to remove the scuttle and then all should become clear. I'm not going to pay some neanderthal knucle-dragger from Vauxhall to fix it (or f*ck it up) :)

Seems simple enough.

Can't you just get the chauffeur to skip one of his daily valeting sessions on the Jaaaag to attend to it you your behalf?

Resorting to manual labour seems a bit extreme.  :P

I have the wiper motor and linkage off the car.

Should I be able to move the linkage by hand? I'm tempted to persuade the linkage to move with a large impacting implement. :)
