cambelt again - buy parts by
« on: 06 August 2008, 12:49:30 »

I am confused.

On the Vauxhall trade club site there is more than one belt kit fitted to the 3.0, depending on engine number. Yet the BpB website claims that one kit fits the range?

What's going on there?

Also - anyone any idea how long they take to deliver? Their kits are still £50 cheaper than VX so to be honest I'd rather get one from there!

Did the non-adjustable bottom-right tensioner come in with the 2.6/3.2 or is that a possibility on a 3.0? If not I guess the worst case is that you may need to re-use the old backing plate if the new one is the wrong type?  :-/

For 50 quid that doesn't sound like a big issue.

PM sent Kev...

Does anyone know if it's just the idlers that differ between kits, or do belt lengths differ too?

I've also seen the lower idler sometimes with a thick spacer behind it, sometimes with a thinner one - I presume it's just the spacer that's different, and the idler itself is the same?  :-/

Got the opportunity of an extremely cheap cambelt kit - just need to ensure I can do something with it !

Edit to add - non adjustable idlers were only on 2.6 and 3.2 afaik

What about shelf life, too? You must change a cambelt kit after 4 yrs regardless of use - does that mean if one has been sat in a warehouse for 4 years, it should be binned? ::)

Just had a quick look in our online catalogue. ( i work for SKF ) and two kits listed for a 3.0. One for engines up to 08300418 and one for engines from 08300419. Will check to see if there is any difference.

I believe there is an improved tensioner set up.  Different casting.

Its only the backing plate that is different (and maybe the spacer) so just re-use them from the original kit.

Belt lengths are the same.

For the 2.5/3.0, MDTM has always told me to swap the large casting over with original if its wrong one, so guessing that belts/idlers/tensioner are all the same
