LPG how does it affect Insurance?

Just wondering what the situation is with LPG and insurance?

If it's DIY is a certificate needed before any cover's offered?
If/when it's cert'd (whether DIY or pro) does it raise or reduce premiums?
and when the conversions done, i presume the V5 has to be changed otherwise that's not valid either?

It seems to vary depending on insurer. My insurer didn't ask for more money nor for an LPGA certificate, and didn't ask who'd fitted it ;) but I will be getting it certified once it's got a few miles on it just to cover myself.

As to the DVLA - I'm nopt sure if you have to supply evidence of the conversion to them? :-/

It should make no difference to the premium, if it does, change ins comps  :y

As to the DVLA, no need to tell them.....it will just stay as petrol as the fuel.....however if you want LPG on the V5 and slightly reduced VED, then you have to provide iirc the bill from the LPG certified installer, the certificate, Insurance doc, MOT, the current V5 and your current tax disk and obviously you have to goto your nearest DVLA office with this paperwork.

sorry mate i misread.  ;)

Not sure if DVLA need to know, unless you want to try and get Dual fuel tax class, which i believe is slightly lower that petrol

sorry mate i misread.  ;)

Not sure if DVLA need to know, unless you want to try and get Dual fuel tax class, which i believe is slightly lower that petrol




Well I am ure any reduction in anything these days would be welcomed  :D

blimey that's a lot of jumping through paper hoops for a new V5. and i can't find any reference on the dvla site that VED would be reduced for having LPG!... oh unless it's a post 2001 car. :-/

Dont think its that big a deal mate (says he who has no idea  :D) just a bit of a process with anything to do with the DVLA  ;D

Very true -- and TBH I don't mind -- I knew what it would cost before I had it and I think it's worth it :)

'Course, when the post 2001 tax hike comes in I will be able to afford a smug grin  ::)
