Smaller gallon, but still . . .

You won't believe what the house prices are!  Small detached house with attached garage big enough for a full hydraulic ramp . . . . $50K, 10% down - yes that is dollars!

You being serious?

Where in the states is this?
What is the best area to go to?
I have fancied moving there for years, for the reasons listed above.

How can I do this?

More logical than Imperial weights & measures though. You/they 16oz in a pound 16 fl oz in a gallon, for some strange reason we have 20 fl oz in our gallon. :-?

This particular house is outside Atlanta.  What type of area do you like?

I'm in the States right now.  I'll only take 10% commision for any transaction ;D ;D ;D

Seriously, remember that saleries here are much less than in the UK unless you are some big shot.  I may be moving here post army but only if I can land a 6 figure job :y

It's hard to judge.  I'd say 35K GBP would translate to about $50K.  Should be similar income tax and standard of living.  However, this depends on location, California and NYC are major exceptions.

I wouldn't run over there looking for a job right now though.  :-/

Dunno, prob somewhere i wont be shot or murdered at every street corner or convenience store.

Seriously though, I dont know much about the states, I like small communities and countryside opposed to inner-city.

Nice sized house, nice piece of land pref not too long a commute to civilisation if you follow me.

I thought about denver , atlanta was one place, maine also.

Somewhere which has a better climate than the uk, (obviously) but  I still would want a nice summer, snowy winter etc.

Any ideas?

All you have to do is stay out of Detroit and a the dodgier areas of certain cities.  That said, most streets in Israel feel safer than most of the nice areas in the UK - especially for women.

Large areas of the Northeast almost down to Georgia and stretching a fair ways into the middle of the country would fit that description, as well as the Pacific Northwest.  Milder temp swings and more rain in the northwest.  Hard freezes to hot and humid in the eastern half, but then almost every house has a/c.  Northern midwest and Denver get snow measured in feet not inches.

But most of the houses are wooden or prefab constrction, hence being cheaper.
