Don't really recall if my first car was crap or not.It was a 1959 Consul in yellow and reg number 1601 UB other than those facts the only other thing I really remember it for were those windscreen wipers that worked off manifold vacuum or some such thing so the faster you drove the slower the wipers got

Had a Moskovich years ago, radiator shutter open/shut lever in car.

My current daily is a 1992 MX5. I love it and all the faults with it.

Granted it's 20+ years newer than the MGB, but the inspiration for it came from the UK.

I had a two year old Bgt way back when I was 19, loved it.Rare aqua colour too.
Had it for 12 months but insurance was crippling so sold it for a profit.
My memory of it is being waved at by kids from the rear window of MK111 1.6  Cortinas as their father outdragged me from the lights.......
Non assisted steering gave me biceps like Rambo and impossible to drive with platform soles but at 19 I was cooler than Steve McQueen.
I remember driving to London to see CSN&Y at Wembley in 1974 and as a long distance tourer it excelled. Where are you now WVS975K.
When I restored my e24 I renewed EVERY steering and suspension component to get it drivč as it would when new . Costly but it is as good if not better than the Omega and my wifes newish Yeti.
So I guess that it depends on what old car is being considered Albs.

The best old car I had was in 1976 had a 1961 MK2 Lowline Zephyr in Ambassador blue totally immaculate column change & sounded wonderful 5187 BY would take you back in an instant.

The MGB was certainly not quick.......but I would have thought it would have the legs on a 1.6 Cortina.

My friend owned a 2000 GXL of 1973 (M) vintage. White with a BVR. That went quite well.

Yes my Consul was indeed a Mk II,it's successor was also the Mk IIs successor in the Ford lineup being a '54 Mk III Consul in Goodwood Green,different styling same engine but with a 4 speed column change as opposed to the Mk IIs 3 speeder.The Mk III is the only car I've ever bought on finance and the finance lasted longer than the car did

I had the ford Zodiac, mk3 4 speed column change bench seat 2.6 straight 6  loved it too but it was merciless on fuel stuggled to get double figures most of the time right boot didn’t help though, first car I managed to squeeze a ton out of, had a speedo which changed colour as you sped up.

Zodiac or indeed the Zephyr6 were way out of my price range then-and are again now.

Had the Zodiac cheap off my uncle when he moved up to a jaguar, and as you say they’re pretty expensive now, if you can find one.
