That's true, I do like comfort over how planted a car should feel.

But even on new fresh tarmac down the M3, the M140i bounces all over the shot. Switch to a drive in the Omega, is like Rolls Royce in comparison. But I think in general all German badged cars ride are setup to be harsh/crashy and firm.

Run flats can completely change the feel of how a Carr drives... Likewise the tyre make, pressure and alignment.

But as ever you completely ignore the fact that the 140i is a 'hot hatch' designed for being driven... 

Even an MV6 would probably be considered firm riding

That's an interesting point, runflats Vs Michelin Pilot supersports plus tank of gas was a no cost choice on my M140i.

I had the Michelin's obviously (who wouldn't?!) But I'd hate to feel what it was like on runflats.

Bro has 19" Goodyear run flats on his F30 330d with no complaints although it is an SE rather than M Sport.

His commute is Southampton - Bracknell daily and I don't believe that he has ever seen a chiropractor

I find more modern Beemers run a bit harsher than older ones, but no idea if tits lower profile tyres, runflats, crappier roads or the general move towards stiffer sprung cars.

Tunnie - the 1 and 2 series are your shitbox corsas of the Beemer world, made to a cheap and nasty spec/quality, with the 3 and 4 series bit in as your Astras, and better quality components used, uprated spec and so on.  No different from any other manufacturer.

So your Tourer really fits in more at the 3/4 series level, so its no wonder you find it a better ride than a 1 series.


Not that I fancy a Beemer. Although around my way, they are becoming a bit more exclusive again, as every other car is a Merc, driven by gormless cocks. I still find them a bit dull and boring.  Now, a (proper) M3/M5, yeah, that don't count.

A mate of mine had two 5 series[one after the other] both of which had[supposedly at any rate] M-sport suspension set ups on.Whenever he gave me a lift in either of them I was damned glad to get out of them I just couldn't take the harsh ride and uncomfy seats!

I found my 525i SE to be as comfy as the Omega, but slightly more rewarding* to drive...

*Before the gearbox decided to lock itself in top

I spend 50% of my time commuting in BMW 2018 m140i and before that m235i.

The ride in BMW’s is absolutely horrific, it’s utter utter shite. They feel poorly made, cheap, tin like, with cheap materials. Plastics, trim, doors etc all feel cheap.

Economical thorough, even with 3.0 twin turbo. 30mpg easy.

So I’d walk away myself and look at Jagggs

I find the BMWs are a good drive..........yes a very harsh suspension setup on the sportier ones....

..well all except the new 1 series which now has a transverse engine install and shares the same chassis as the fat Mini, that's been totally ruined
