They are numbered 1 through 4 according to the cam position  ;)

1 and 4 are the exhaust ones, and 2 and 3 are the inlet ones ;)

I agree, the picture shows the correct position with the red arrows since this was before I took it apart. The tricky bit that fooled me is that the wheels 3 & 4 are the same. On wheel 3 there are the numbers 3 4 stamped at the left mark, and that's why I positioned it at the green arrow since the numbers are there. Whey they did so is a bit unlogical in my mind. But maybe the 4 had to be where it is since there is a big hole where it supposed to be.

Anyway I correct this tomorrow and let you know if it works better after that.

Cam 3 is the long notch and cam 4 is the short notch, so the red arrows are correct as said.  :y

Now the cams are properly set and the engine runs and sounds like it should.

Good that solved, is the belt more "in front" now? Remember I thought it was a bit back.

Yes thanks for asking,

Everything in order and proper alignment. The belt runs good on the idlers. The old kit wasn't the correct one for this engine. It had the earlier kit and it should have the later. I expect it to last 60000km as  it should. This is my winter car, instead of changing tyres I swap cars  ;D

When it's duties is over in the spring I will check the status on the cam belt.
