Is anyone else a scrooge like me?
« on: 05 December 2006, 15:06:00 »

I just cannot get into the christmas sprit, its fairly warm outside, but its just windy and very wet. So its the the normal weather.

Maybe if outside was covered in snow might get into it, but all these pictures on cards & TV of snow covered doors and snow in the corner of windows just has no relevance. Same with the adverts on tv of argos or whoever delivering in thick snow... bull its just bloody raining!

I Walk into the shops with all the decorations, and i just thing, god what crap!! - Same with the adverts on TV, when ever the ASDA or anyother xmas advert is on, with some bloody xmas music i immediately press MUTE on the remote.

Bah humbug!  >:(

You might as well get used to it Tunnie, the way things are going snow is going to be a thing of the past that only old timers like me will remember. I bet the lads up north will get some snow but not like it used to be. I love Christmas but im not religious, just like the family around, a good christmas meal, a few beers topped off with a good few single malts  :y

Christmas is, and always has been, for the benefit of small children. Its our job to slog our guts out so that they can enjoy it. The poor little sods get a reality check early enough these days. let them enjoy it while they can. :)

i think i'm in the same picture as you with regards to christmass intead of being a religious celebration is a materialistic event where you need to spend a fortune buing crap for people and i don't understand why everyone has to eat roast turkey in christmass? Last christmass i cooked beef wellington. i like christmass but i hate peoples perception of it.

when the adverts and store decorations came up in october, that killed it for me.

Christmas is only supposed to be 12 days anyway! My mum always wants to put the tree up but can never be bothered, luckly our loft is small and i am the only person who can reach the tree  :)

I was in Chicago in 2004 in the first week in december, it was a lot less commercial out there. The stores where not full of crap like they are here, Sears had a few tastefull small decorations up and that was it.

Driving around my uncles estate, it was suprised at the tastefull lights, of course there were 1 or 2 which had gone overboard, but because it was like -5 with a -20 windchill there it acually felt christmassy!

Also watching TV in the first week in december i saw no xmas adverts!

The americans generally get a lot of things wrong... Iraq for one, but xmas was done right over there IMO.

No offence btw theo ;)
