Slowly whittling down the pile of bits laid around the kitchen... when the plod went in for bodywork, my welding man removed the sill covers. However, I've never removed sill covers before, so have no idea how they came off.

I've got 2 sills and two long rubber trims that appear to fit on perfectly along one lip. There's a wee plug at one end - does this go to the rear. I'm assuming rubber trim on first, then clip the covers into the plastic sides - is it a push- or a slide-fit? Then pop the trims on each end and replace the plugs... easy?

I don't like plastic things that I can break...

Rubber attaches to the car. The rest as you say, but simply clips straight on. Sliding is the easy way to remove them

If you can't figure it out, you should probably get someone else to fit it

Assuming your welder left the pins attached to the sill panels of course... 

Joking aside, if he didn't then we can address that separately. Incidentally the rubber sits about a half inch above the side skirt

If refitting used rubber seals to the top edge of the sill (onto the welded 'top hat' shaped studs) there usually is an indentation in the rubber from the bottom edge of the doors which indicates which side and position it was fitted previously.
I would put a smidge of grease of the small studs before refitting the rubber seals which just knock on with the heel of your hand.
