I know it is not PC to say so Kate ,but women really are more happy and feel more secure when the man is in charge.
Have you watched Tribal Wives on BBC2 lately,the men are very much in charge and the women are very happy that they are.
Our western women could learn a lot from these supposedly backward people. 
Ok basically evolution decided to give man a penis and a woman a woman's thing...that way the man could sow his seed,his partner becomes pregnant and this allows the man too carry on hunting/gathering ect ect while she stays home and pops a kid out and then spends time raising it.
The biggest problem we have now days since women were given the vote and equality is that they actually think there equal and when they feel there not they demand too be treated as such...until they realise they cant do whatever it is they demanded the right to do,then its tears and tantrums.
Im sorry but a man will always be superior than a woman....we go out too work you stay home and create a family everyones happy.
Oh and before anyone starts banging about i dont know what im talking about...ive visted enough countries and seen it first hand.
