mmmm Black Omega, lives near a Naval Base, one wonders .....
No mystery: ex stoker from county class destroyers (showing my age here). Married a local 32years ago and settled in the area. Black is beautiful.
Devonshire Class guided missle destroyers? Then you are chunk! My Dad joined HMS Fife in 1966 and he is now 82!!

HMS Glamorgan in 1972 HMS Norfolk 1974 I was due to go on the Fife in 1974 but she had a big engine room fire and I was drafted onto the Norfolk instead. Small world but 30 yrs junior to your dad i'm 52. One more coincidence lived in Coldred in Kent for part of my childhood when my Dad worked in the Kent coalfeild.

Yes indeed, and interestingly when Dad joined HMS Fife he decided that he would leave the Service after 26 years because it was a "different Navy" to that which he joined.
Fife, he said at the time, was just too modern for him, lacked portholes even

, and did not have the same spirit (to him) of his previous postings including wartime destroyers, battle-cruiser HMS Ajax (he was on board at the bombardment of Normandy on 6th June 1944) and HMS Albion (1960) fleet carrier. Apart from that he served in Malta (1952/4 & 1962/4), as a Chief Petty Officer (Signals) instructor at Dartmouth Naval College 1960/2 and Haslemere 1964/5.

He still really lives and breathes the Navy to this day, being somewhat a naval historian and a mine of wonderful stories about experiences, observations, along with Officers he served alongside including Lord Mountbatten. A very colourful wartime destroyer captain called 'Jumbo Jenks' is his favourite though. 8-)
He was born and bred in Highbrooms, Tunbridge Wells , Kent as well!
Sorry to ramble, but I thought it could be interesting to you Chunk!
Longway from the thread about that horrible monster GG though!
