True, there are easier cars to pull the dash on, and not disputing the work involved, but it is doable, if you've the inclination to do it.

The trouble with the Omega is that there's four hundred screws holding in everything that you can see before you can even think about removing the actual dash and most people struggle getting the radio out to remove the trim.

Not wanting to do it and not being able to do it are very different things ;)

A prefacelift Omega doesn't have anything like the value that warrants the time and effort, but will almost certainly have rust on the bulkhead. If it's a keeper, then it could be worth the time and effort, but if it isn't then as you say binning it is the easy option.  ;)

Inspecting the outside of the bulkhead rather than the inside is the easy option.  ;)

Remember, DG, that photo only shows the easy bit.  To do as you suggest also means all the climate and air distribution and a lot of the loom.

Then as Nick W rightly says, reassembly is the hard part.  Then repeat to remove the rattles.

Are we agreeing :o

Perhaps it's time for a brake or cooling thread ;D

Its the sort of thing you would do on a classic car rebuild.  Which the Omega isn't really, plus its a much more challenging job.

Certainly not impossible, few things are, but definitely not a decision to be done on a whim.  More of a last resort type decision.

If the rust is that hidden that you have to take the dash out to see or repair it then i doubt any NT (MOT tester) would notice it  ::)
get the cassis legs ,sills etc sorted and an MOT on it before taking on a job like the dash out ;)
which would probably never get put back in as you loose interest in the idea ,when you remember how much it took to get out

Thanks for all the replys. I popped round to have a very quick glance the other day and managed to fist the sill. i know the back right corner of the boot floor has gone too. I know its only an omega but i literally just want to use it to practice welding on. The rear arches are both shot so at some point i want to try weld in some new ones. It aint easy and there is a solid chance that the scrap yard will see the car before any MOT center but if i do manage to get it looking half decent then will be another one saved. I imagine that with all the condensation in the car overtime then the bulkhead prob will have some rust in. Will be a great project tho.
