It wasn't the PIT that killed him, but the subsequent impacts pure chance that the police car landed on it twice. The State Trooper involved walked from it :o

The full video gives a much better context than the two minute clip.

PITing a vehicle, at any speed, tends to be a last resort, and isn't a decision that's necessarily made by the offficer that does it, there is usually supervision responsible for the whole pursuit.

If he'd have been in a Mazda they'd have never caught him.

Knowing the US's level headed approach to such things, they probably send a missile after the car if they couldn't catch it.

a) Incompetent
b) Arrogant
c) Too risk adverse

All this makes it too easy for the crims to run rings around them, and even if they do get caught, they will have the knowlege they will get a 14 day suspended.

about the punishment leniency i totally agree. once caught they should be made culpable & pay for the total cost of the chase & all consequences entailed. when a helicopter is launched i believe that alone costs £ 6k

My Son is a copper in Yorkshire he has been driving a Kia Stinger for the last month or so he reckons it's a very nice vehicle, I haven't even seen one yet ( in the flesh) normally uses a Sportage apparently they get a very good deal from Kia.

Plus....if some brain dead twonk decides to reverse his stolen 4x4 into a police car, he should be made to pay for the damage or, failing that, serve extra time.
