All those poor soldiers who died , had legs blown off and those were left horribly maimed , all for what , so some grandstanding gob shyate politicians could make statements about "the war on terror" . It's disgusting how these soldiers sacrifices have come to nothing , give it 6 months and the Taliban will have complete control of the country and turn it back to the stone age
Fully agree. That is the real tragedy of the situation. So much waste of British soldiers lives with many others ruined

.
You sign up to the armed forces ,you are aware of what could happen & it often does if you get through unscathed you are one of the lucky ones nobody forces you to do it you are a certain type and take the rough with the smooth.
Yes, young men, and women, often think of the 'glory' of joining up and going into battle, as once my 18 year old son did with the idea that "his mates and him lived together, trained together, fought together, and if necessary died together" - something I did not want to hear him say!!
But that was his attitude, as it was for the young men who joined up in 1914 for the Great War, and even then others doing the same for WW2. So again, yes, it is what young people do. BUT, it does not negate the terrible loss and suffering for those who fought in Afghanistan when the politicians decide they should fight there, then decide it was all a mistake and pull them out.
However, if they had of done that in 1915 perhaps hundreds of thousand of lives could have been saved and maybe the "Right War" that was WW2 could have been avoided with millions of lives saved.
Such is the waste caused by man and in the case of Afghanistan for what? As others have correctly pointed out that country has been fought over for hundreds of years; it is a warrior nation that loves "the fight". As with the likes of Vietnam, Iraq, and now Afghanistan they were / are wars fought because of politicians mistaken beliefs, warped ideology, and a play in the game of power.
One day mankind will learn that war, a terrible final element of failed diplomacy to date, is not worth it and breeds further conflict and political tension. The Great War, WW2, Korea, Vietnam, Iraq, and Afghanistan are all living proof of that, which is evident in World politics today.
I reckon mankind has one hundred years of the madness of war left, if climate change hasn't killed the human race off by then!
