I just feel incredibly sad for the young people of Afghanistan who have had their futures ripped out from under them in a matter of days.  :'(

In the great Ian Durys words……… what a waste………..      and we’ve funded it🤬
I'd have probably gone with 'hit me with your rhythm stick'

Although Walt Whitman might be more appropriate  :-\

Kipling wrote specifically about the second Afghan war. Roll to your rifle and Kim show that 140 years of 'progress' have changed nothing.

Or Harold Macmillan in 1963 - The first rule of politics should be to never invade Afghanistan.

You can't mention Kipling in 2021. Racist imperialist. :)

Presumably woke students have already pulled down his statue.....if he has one. ::)

Oh yes, Russia Today news channel. They haven't got an axe to grind, have they?  ;D
Has anyone seen the chaos at Kabul airport on BBC news site? Absolute mayhem. This could turn into another humanitarian crisis, if it hasn't already

He was certainly an unashamed imperialist. And that shows in his stories of what Britain did in Afghanistan in the 1820s, and then the 1870s, and again after WW1. What we've been doing recently is exactly the same, for many of the same reasons. And what Russia did before us.

An important part of these actions is the ignominious public withdrawal after achieving nothing of value.

I couldn’t agree more with that, far better to help our own and let them be,..it’s no good for them or us.

I know being a military pilot, it goes with the territory, but the crew of that C17 had a pretty shitty day. And you certainly wouldn't want to be one of the civilian crews stuck there :-\

He was a man of his times.  But he paid a heavy price for supporting WW1 and persuading the British army to allow his son John, with defective eye sight, to join up after using his high level connections.  John was killed in 1915 at the Battle of Looe, something he never got over.

So I am sure if he had been around now, and had lost his son in Afghanistan he would be one of the first saying "what a bloody waste and a disgrace for Britain! :'( :'(

It's been reported that Ashraf Ghani the now former Afghan President took stacks of cash when he legged it yesterday.   ::)

So much in fact that it wouldn't all fit in the helicopter and he left $5 million in cash in bags on the tarmac at the airport.  :o

Someone must have got lucky!  :)

None of the indigenous people are prepared to fight they are all running away, I noticed all the people hanging on that military plane were men, why are they not with their wives kids and parents they are predominantly young men of fighting age getting the hell out of Dodge. Bidens 🤡 address  on tv should be very interesting…..

Only finishing what Trump started and, by all accounts, a move popular with the majority of the American electorate. Until they had to face the reality of what it actually means, of course.
