Have to say the program confirmed my current prejudice against fully EV road cars for day to day use. Not the Beetle bit, but the road trip from Hull to John O'Groats. I may only use my cars for perhaps a dozen to 20 long distance trips a year, but the aggro of having to stop every 3 hours/250 miles for up to an hour to recharge just puts me right off. And 70p/KWh !!! Home leccie is only about £15p/KWh. So almost £50 to fill up a 70KWh car to do the next 250-300 miles? Would feel a bit like when you put your card in an ATM and it tells you it's going to cost you £2 (or whatever) extra to take out your money.

Unless Guy Martin was doing something daft (entirely possible) it means I'd need 2 cars - one for the daily runabout (30 miles a day, recharge at home), and another for the occasional long distance trip (> 1000 miles a day occasionally).

Proponents of EV's like to quote the 'average' driver when talking about the distance travelled on each trip. Anyone with a bit of sense knows that average doesn't work in any scenario.

My diesel astra is on 85,000 miles now, and still going strong. I am 68 years old. If I can get another couple of years, or 30,000 miles from the old fella, I will buy a newish (3 year old is usually my mantra) diesel estate, and hope that will see me through till I hang up my keys.....all things being equal

Agree with this.

It just wouldn't be viable for the amount of driving I do for work, but for someone who works in a set location and the round trip + a detour to the shops etc is within the range then it's a different story.
