If I can repair for under £500 I will go non insurance as my excess is over £400 :o

If you go the insurance route, they will write it off ...

I wonder how much I would get and how much I could buy back at?

If I could repair it for a reasonable amount I would do so with involving the insurance at all. What they don't know about, won't harm them. I'm sure they'll only load your insurance next year because you've had an accident, whether you've made a claim or not. :(

From the photos damage looks "superficial" - that is with a bit of straightening new panels can be bolted on ok.

Agree the chassis should be jigged for peace of mind.  Look along it yourself for any slight rippling - any sign then you have a more major problem. From my experience in straightening out body damage in the past I would very much doubt if the chassis has been damaged.

Its certainly DIY fixable for £500 at home.

Via insurance....Tunnie is correct they would write it off.

LPG wont be part of a payout, so the car is worth what a normal 2.6 cd is worth in their eyes... so adding new panels and paint via insurance, as well as headlight etc ould certainly put payout at 50% of value...that when its a loss....

TBH Martin it looks pretty cosmetic... I'd repair myself and leave the insurance company out of the loop :y :y

Had a closer look this morning, and the bumper mount on the inner wing is about 4 inches back from where it should be and the inner wing front is a little mangled. Where is is spot welded to the chassis it has pulled one weld out and needs squashing back.

Looks like budgeting on £250 for parts and then ask a body shop just to pull it back out. Unless someone on here knows what to do, I might try the rope and reverse trick.

So the front of the inner wing is 4" back, the slam panel is around an inch to 2 back and the bonnet is distorted.

If anyone wants to have a look on the way home from Newent they are welcome.

Does anyone have any links for straightening bent Omegas?

The chassis rail is OK?  Not that expensive in my experience to get certain bits straightened out on a frame jig at a body shop.  Well worth going that route, then you can still do the other bits yourself.

Been measuring

Chassis rail to ground both sides 225mm

Suspension turret to inner edge of outer wing

62mm

top edge of outer wing

bad 124 good 112.5 big gap explained

Bonnet bracket to last bolt

bad 1mm less than good (880 890 - I think)

Bonnet bracket to headlamp bolt on slam panel

bad 895 good 920

Looks like 25mm at the slam panel and a little bit more on the bottom of the inner wing, couldn't measure it.

Pull it straight, repair inner wing to chassis rail at very front. Replace bonnet wing bumper headlamp.

Refit air box properly, repair one radiator bracket.

Martin I'm sorry to see this situation..

From the pictures I think you will need a second hand or a new bonnet.. They are hard to repair..

And also good news right fender paint not damaged only need correction on the chasis..But to do that right headlight, air filter and some other stuff must be taken out and pulled by a special tool..

Just caught up with this thread Martin, and very sad to see and read about your mishap! :'( :'( :( :( :(

If only I lived closer I would certainly come and help, although I am no good at body work repairs but at least I could make the teas! ;)

Just hope you can sort it all out yourself, as I agree with the previous comments that an insurance company would assess your car as a write-off.  Indeed when I slightly pranged the front of my 1996 Elite six years ago at about 10 mph against the back of a trailer, and pushed the bumper, os headlight and lower front panel in the bill came to over £1,800:(

Hope all goes well Martin. ;)

Looking at some of the cars the guys a striping on the forum, would it worth buying a rear end damaged car of MOT failure to rebuild yours then sell the reast of the parts on the donor car.

I know you mention raising a grand, but this could be cheaper in the long run and maybe even profitable  in the end if the donor could be financed to start with.  :y

What happened, just swinging into a gateway to turn around or something?

Tight gateway at my daughters school, too much input read the wall as the edge not the gate, while avoiding a fence on the pavement.

Very embarrasing - and the headmaster checked the gates were OK :-[

Only the best school in Worcester too! :-[

Oh well at least it is driveable, just need to straighten and this I could do with help on, or I have to go to a body shop.
