CarPC Install attempt with pics!
« on: 07 September 2008, 23:04:47 »

I got an 8" touchscreen LCD from work on friday, and could wait in fitting a PC into the car...

So sat morning I went to the scrappy to get a scrap climate surround. They only had GLS's in, which dont have Climate Control  :( SO... I decide to rip my dash to pieces anyway!

Heres a few pics, Took me two days of solid work (almost) with the worst workbench EVER; some old step ladders!!!  ;D

Down side, it aint quite working properly (and I have a funny feeling it will be usless in daylight too!) :'( :'( :'(

Looks good so far!  Will be doing this myself (see avatar) but will be using a 7" Wide Lilliput or similiar which is day-time readable.

Quick question though...  How will you be going about securing the panel back to the car, given where the 2 screws are located behind the ashtray originally, and also will the screen be removable to allow access to the pull lever behind the climate system to fully detach the facia??

Just gives me a better idea as to when it comes to sorting mine out :) Idea I had originally was to allow the climate panel to be secured first, and the facia itself modified to just 'clip' in place, but securely...  Not sure if this may be possible though without some heavy modifications from the start...

I have a way that works VERY well!

Basicly, I wanted it so you cant remove the screen / dash from the front - dont want people nicking it!

So, Its all held in place with the metal clip on the climate unit. The bottom screws wont be fitted.

Will dig the photos out and post them up for you ASAP as it will all make sence! :y
