As far as I'm concerned it's akin to the 1936 Berlin Olympics in Nazi Germany.  I won't be watching.

Yes, and just 3 years later we were at war. I just hope history is not repeating itself, now that Russia has sided up with China very closely.  :o

If push comes to shove we may have to give them a British bloody nose. They'll know not to mess with us after that. ::) ::)

The chances are it may be the other way round as it was in 1939/40, and with modern weapons it may then be all too late. :(

Yep...China and Russia combined could easily kick the shit out of us in 2022.

Ah, for the days of empire. :-X

Yes a couple of gunboats up the Yellow River with a few Redcoats aboard should sort them out M'Lud:y

There was a time, Tig.

...but these days we need to constantly apologise, it seems. :-X :-\

I'll probably watch some of it[prefer winter olympics to the summer ones]not really much point boycotting the game because of human rights or anything else issues while we continue to buy Chinese goods hand over fist. However 6 Nations kicks off again tomorrow afternoon with Wales/Ireland and later the Calcutta Cup match with Scotland hosting England then Italy/France on Sunday.

There's no beach Volleyball, or any eye candy, so I'm not watching it. They all wear big coats and wolley hats.. nothing to see. Moving on.

I imagine comparing President Xi with Winnie the Pooh is punishable by death.  :)

Imagine what they could slip into your Chow Mien down at the local Chinky if they find out you've mocked their Dear Leader!  :P

Looks like a kids skateboard park set up in a rough part of town. The competitors will be glad they're in a bubble so they don't have to go sightseeing.

Yeah, there has been a bit of a fuss on the Skiing forums. But it turns out the Chinese have used less than one tenth the amount water to generate artificial snow for the Olympic events as the French Ski resort of Val D'Isere alone so far this season. Given that most Alpine resorts now have significant amounts of artificial snow generation, if you count all the resorts in Europe it's difficult to go pointing fingers at the Chinese over it.

Of course it would be nice if the Winter Olympics could be held in a place with guaranteed natural snow, but the way things are going that'll mean hosting them at the south pole sooner or later.
