The last spring was always a fighter, but no better/worser than any other drum brake system.

First question though, you did put the lever in the released position and back the adjusters right off first?

Fitting the centre console to the Austin ,its fitted fine many times but this is "final" fit and stuff didnt line up (WTF) . After a bit of a fight it fits but forgot to check the gauges and pipe work for leaks on the air ride system-----------
 And it sounds like a n/s exhaust manifold to head joint is leaking.
