On a train back from Gloucester to Cardiff this evening - as we were approaching Newport from near the Freight yard, there were some teenagers, walking along the mainline!!

Immediately I alerted the conductor - he said "I'll see what the driver says". Went back in his cab - came out - "Drive says it's on the other side so we aren't going to do anything about it"

I said "You're not going to do ANYTHING about it?"

"Nope" he said.

I was stunned, and left with no choice - so I called British Transport Police on my mobile and told them about it.

Strangely, all trains came to a rather abrupt stop very shortly afterwards - causing some notable delays  

Really, though - I could not believe the approach of those staff over something so safety critical.

Oh well - the departure boards in Cardiff were quite "interesting" to say the least, when I got in - good job nobody knows it was my fault or I wouldn't be popular

Indeedy - but you'd be surprised the number of passengers neadby that didn't want me to make that call, so they could get home on time!

i wouldn't.  the only way those morons on the track will stop is if one of Branston's Intercity rearranges their bones.

transport police can do eff all, as kids will be long gone, so waste of everyone's time imho....

But in balance, I would never live with myself if I went home and saw on the news they had been mowed down.

TBH though -- if the only consequence of the incident was going to be the idiots getting killed I would have left them to it -- might make others think twice if they knew the world wasn't going to stop to save their sorry behinds!  Unfortunately though, we all know only too well their untimely end isn't the only messy outcome!

I would feel just as bad for the people that have to do the cleanup, and for the driver that has to live with the experience.
