Central locking won't lock
« on: 04 July 2024, 13:46:31 »

Left the omega parked up for a week or so. Returned to it today and unlocked it to get something out of the boot.

Closed the boot, pressed lock and the car locked and then unlocked itself again. I haven't disturbed any other doors than the tailgate. Any ideas? Every time I try and lock it I'm getting the same response.

*Update* I got in and tried to start it in case it was a low voltage issue and the battery is indeed low enough to fail to turn the starter. Could this be having an effect?

It's a good place to start ;)

Bouncing locks is otherwise an indication of failing drivers door solenoid.

Didn't have time to mess about with it before leaving for work so I've just had to manually lock all the doors and boot. Haven't had to do that particular operation since the early 90s  ;D

Manual locking and then unlocking with the remote won't trigger the alarm, so that's a plus :y

Locking with the remote and unlocking manually ALWAYS set it off.

The only difference between plod and not IMHE was no power sounder or rear quarter glass breakage sensors.

Update: Battery kept going flat - eventually traced to passenger side sunvisor mirror lamp!

Central locking working absolutely fine once battery charged, and visor bulbs removed as a short term fix.

Pretty much this  ;D

Can't take the credit really, as all I did was Google "vauxhall omega battery drain" and the first result that came up was "check your sun visor lights aren't staying on"

Are your survivors sagging?

If so it might be an idea to put a strip of tape across the contact in the clip. Doesn't have to cover the whole contact, just the first half.of the range of movement so that it has to definitely be down before the lights come on.
