I have absolutely no idea what oil goes in our engines. I take it to the local garage, he does stuff to it and it comes back with a fresh MOT and the oil thingy saying 100%.  ;D

After using up all my bulk buy Vauxhall 10/40 semi synthetic oil, and now needing a change of the stuff in my Omega, that has always been given it over at least the last 11 years, I phoned my friendly Vx parts manager.

He told me they no longer do the Vx (used to be GM) oil of that grade, but they now recommend a 10/40 semi synthetic named Euro...something or other.  £37.07 for 5 litres, although I will get a discount on that.

Does anyone have any thoughts, comments or knowledge of that oil please? ??? ???

I have a HBV, breather clean and Cam Cover Gasket change to do over the next week, so I might as well do the oil at the same time.  Don't want to do all that, as I have many times before, but I have to due to cost limitations. :P

I have just found this Opel GM oil from Autodoc:
https://www.autodoc.co.uk/opel-gm/14429902?utm_medium=cpc&utm_source=google&tb_prm=20315908947&gshp=1&gad_source=1&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIq_-M1bDoiAMV7KNQBh1ewyh8EAQYASABEgLT_fD_BwE

Can this be correct?? Is this Opel GM oil still being produced?  I thought the GM connection was now dead! :o :o ::)

Well looking at the pictures and descriptions it looks like the right stuff, possibly they've got a lot of old new stock to shift.

Yep, that’s what I think.  Does anyone have insider info on this?  When GM cast off Opel and Vauxhall, was there a massive oil stock somewhere in Euro land?  :( ;D ;)

I've used Smith Allan oils for a good number of years, and their auto transmission and gear oils too with no problems.
This is actually slightly better (newer) spec than the GM you've found - and cheaper....

Newer being API SN / CF spec rather than the GM SL /CF ...

Any 10w40 that meets A3/B4 should suffice.

The oil I am buying from Autodoc is cheaper than from Vx or other suppliers when branded with recognisable names ;D. In fact I have found Autodoc very competitive, and even more important they now have the parts, and other supplies, for my Omega that others, including Vx, no longer have available, like the oil from them that they once stocked.  I reckon £66, including delivery charges, for 10 litres of the right stuff for me is a good deal.

It was especially right as I won £66 on the National Lottery on Saturday which exactly paid for it!  Some things are just meant to be!! ;D ;D ;D

Well, my 10 litres of "Genuine" GM 10/40 oil came through from Autodoc, with hologram, bar codes and Opel reference labels, very well packaged,  that I have used for 11 years:

Never asked it before but after seeing other comments about certain letter references to the oil, what do these, that were on my other UK GM oil mean? :
