Astra J A16XER Cam Cover Leakage to Spark Plugs
« on: 02 March 2025, 19:17:03 »

Hello
Changed some weeks ago cam cover gasget as spark plug wells were full of oil and gott P0300. Old seal was hard as glass. I checked today situation by taking coilpack away. There was still minor amount of oil in pots 1 and 2. Driven 500-1000km. So, warped cover? Is this typical. I di not use glue when assembled new gasget. I can order new cover from e.g. Autodoc but just wanted to ask is this typical. 120 000 km driven car from 2009.

May be worth cleaning out the oil and seeing if it happens again.

When I did mine, there was oil up inside the coil packs, which drained out into the plug wells. Not much but a noticable amount. Could be the same for you

Decided to order FebiBilstein cover from Autodoc. Arrived today and I already took old cover away. Pots 1&2 had some oil around plugs while 3&4 were dry. Now I would like to get some tips.
Is GM Black one recommended around plug wells to improve situation or also everywhere or should I just lubricate the rubber gasget with oil. The new cover came with gasget installed. I would not likr to take it away for oiling but just install how it is as it sits there nicely. Please help, I do not want to make this third time...

Goo generally only goes on sharp corners such as the cam cutouts or where the cover crosses over a joint between two components.

The oiling of rubber gasget generally is my question. After cleaning everything some people just assemble it some told better to oil it slightly. Is there any General "rule"?

If you want it to degrade more evenly then oil it, but they're not desperate to be as a rule. ;)

Job jobbed (again), thanks for tips DG. Black silicon in sharp corners and slightly oiled rubber gasget. Let's see, quite simple job, I believe it is ok now.
