Okay looks like I am stuck as chip and code NLA , will try local key person but might end up using after market ECU.

More info needed.  Most ECUs are really available 2nd hand, and if you are on about 2.5/3.0 performance chips, they are still fairly available.  If on about key transponders or fobs, loads available.

Its the immobilizer chip that I am missing but how do you get one made without the code?

The transponder in the key fob?  Or the Immobiliser ECU?

So the transponder chip (in the key) is generic. It is not programmable, but is (semi) unique.

The immobiliser ECU - the ring around the ignition key - needs to be programmed to "learn" each transponder chip in each key, up to a maximum of 5 transponders.  The security code is needed for this.

The immobiliser ECU and engine ECU are paired together with the same security code.

So you need 3 parts to make it work - Engine ECU paired to an immobiliser ECU, with 1 or more transponders learnt by the immobiliser ECU.  Simples.


Or if your donor was from a 1994 or 1995 car, you can get away with just the engine ECU, as the immobiliser was just a simple affair.

Does the 2.5/3.0 have a separate immobiliser ECU then?

On the 2.6/3.2 there's the small board in the transponder ring and 3 (iirc), wires to the engine ECU.

The alarm/combined alarm immobiliser is a different system entirely and the donor plod would only ever have had the basic alarm.

96 reg (P) and it was a plod estate, can you tell the year build from chassis no 21V 1031075 ?

What I need is the security code some how as Vauxhall say they no longer have it. V looks like 97 build.

All post 95 cars have the same setup - Engine ECU paired with immobiliser ECU (the ring around ignition), and the immobiliser ECU is programmed to learn the transponders.

Pre 95 cars have the IR immobiliser system, and I bet none work now, and all have the immobiliser relay bypassed. This is a simpler setup that means with just some wires, you can bypass it.

This is completely separate to the Central Locking/ATWS where the CL/ATWS behind kick panel is programmed to learn the key fobs, and controls just the CL/ATWS.  This system is not linked to the immobiliser system on post 95 cars (but sort of is on pre 95, due to IR element)

Try another dealer, but most won't help without logbook.


So engine ECU, immobiliser ring and transponders from a scrappy.
