Alloy wheel refurb

My 17" Elite Alloys have got some medium kerb damage, and assorted scratch marks - but no major major scores that I can recall.

Can I refurb these myself - if so, is there a thread where it's been done before?

James,

refurbing the alloys is very similiar to standard painting procedure..

but before that they must be corrected for any irregular shape..

after you need to sand the scratches as much as possible..(320 grid)

and basecoat must be applied..After must be sanded again for the

next paint layer to stick (also some extra corrections for traces of

underlying scratches if left).. (800,1200 grid)

After must be painted with minimum 3 layers of paint and 3 layers of

laquer..

The scratches are easily repaired bt normal vehicle bodyfiller .Wet sand with 600 grit to key the paint surface after cleaning all brake dust and road grime . Prime using a good quality primer /filler available in aerosol  best sourced froma motor factors that will mix and supply in aerosol can format .For colour use Wurth paint which is a perfect match for the oem finish on the facelift elites.Then several light coats of UV resistant laquer . .I use U-pol clear No 1 which again is available from good paint factors and has great longevity .I painted my front n/s bumper 4 years ago and there is no fading evident.
Finish by wet sanding with 1500 or 2000 grit production paper and a good coat of polish
I posted a thread re the part refurb of Elites some time ago using Wurth paint and can't speak highly enough of it.
Refurbing these wheels yourself is very straight forward and extremely satisfying.

The result is nice..But for a professional job you need to use a small nozzle spray gun.. :-/
