What Broadband?
« on: 22 September 2008, 21:09:35 »

Had BT on the phone today asking If I was going to renew my Boradband, after offering me some things that I did not want or need. I said probably not, she said by and hung up, never even tried to get me to change my mind.

Reason for this is that there seem to be so many other deals around, and I am sure Carphone Wharehouse said that they do something, and that you did not have to pay BT their line rental.

Want wireless, and all we do is browse around, nothing heavy, the boys download some music and that is about it.

What happens about email address, and things like oof that recognise me, is this all easily changed. ::)

Any ideas on who, we live in a village and up load and download speed are not brilliant and no cable and we can not get BT Vision.
 :) :) :)

Will be in the same situation as I move in the new year.

Am with Plus net at the mo on thier old Premium service costing £21 before discounts,  but could max the bandwidth before the fair user policy came in.

I am not limited in the way that other users are so still max the bandwith at times.  Current speed is 6.5mb

Have considered the sky package as I move, rural area maybe upto 4.5 mb and as yet am not aware of limits.  but am against 3rd party companies having access to my phone bill as they are doing it for research.  The phone is free and the net is £5 for a limited service and an extra £5 for unlimited.

I never use the ISP email so that does not concern me, the OOF wont be a problem I dont think,

So for me it's quality od service and supoort, both of which have been good with Plus net.

Need reliability for VOIP and not bothered about going wireless.

So no real rush at the mo for me.

Check out www.adslguide.org  it may take you to annother site but they have plenty of info on ISP and charges on a chart.  :y

Can't get Vision BTs USP is out.

So avoid BT, Carphone Warehouse, Virgin unless you want to be tracked

Ultimately, they can all be crap if you have poor connection to exchange...  ...of if exchange is overloaded.

Beyond that, ISP choice makes a huge difference....

Just dropped from 10 meg to 2 on Virgin cable. 750mb gets me capped now, piece of cake if I'm mucking about with the website or doing a new install.

Having used both, I would definately go for cable over ADSL if it is an option. Very stable and the contention ratio is only 20:1 instead of 50:1

The price to pay is Virgin's customer service.  >:(

Still, at least the poxy proxies have gone  :y
